UK-based connected vehicle start-up, Wejo, and Waycare, an AI-driven mobility solutions provider, have struck a deal where Waycare will leverage Wejo’s connected car data to improve its traffic management solutions.

The long-term partnership will be implemented into an existing programme in Nevada to make driving safer and more efficient.

Traffic data sources

Wejo’s data will supplement Waycare’s existing traffic data sources, providing agencies with a comprehensive overview of conditions on the roads in the US.

The integration allows the Waycare platform to more accurately detect and predict incidents and determine risk on roadways, the partners claim.

“Almost all drivers in highly populated areas experience a great deal of traffic congestion, delayed journeys, and an increased risk of accidents,” said Richard Barlow, chief executive, Wejo.

“We are working together with Waycare to reduce these delays and improve road safety.”

Waycare software is used by several Nevada transportation and safety management agencies to identify and respond to incidents quicker, providing data-driven insights to help them take proactive measures to improve traffic safety:

  • The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTCSN)
  • Freeway & Arterial System of Transportation (FAST)
  • Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP)
  • Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) Freeway Service Patrol (FSP) and Maintenance

“The dynamic nature of the urban environment requires that agencies become more proactive about the conditions on their roads,” added Shai Suzan, CIO, Waycare.

“We are thrilled to support cities around the US by providing a solution that has demonstrated an improvement in congestion and road safety.”

Waycare is a cloud-based software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform leveraging “vast amounts” of data from both internal and external sources on the roads and around the ecosystem.

Waycare harnesses machine learning technologies to synthesise all data sets and with a view to providing actionable insights to improve traffic and safety management operations.

Wejo is a vehicle and mobility marketplace, which aims to provide “the most comprehensive and trusted” data, information and intelligence.

By unlocking new insights, Wejo seeks to transform the way people move from point A to point B.
