Suppliers are beginning to create extensive partner networks to offer cities integrated and platform-ready smart street lighting product offerings
Signify (formerly known as Philips Lighting), Itron and Telensa top the leaderboard of smart streetlighting providers, published by market research and advisory firm, Navigant Research.
Navigant, which provides in-depth analysis of clean, intelligent, mobile and distributed energy, said that these vendors have deployed large-scale connected street lighting projects in multiple world regions and are recognising the importance of smart street lighting to the broader smart cities market.
It describes a “solid group of contenders” led by Echelon, Rongwen, and Current, powered by GE, as also developing innovative technology solutions and leading significant city deployments.
“LEDs have been firmly established as the technology of choice for street lighting upgrades,” said Navigant. “The next phase of smart street lighting development includes rapidly increasing deployments of controls technology and the utilisation of street lighting as a broader platform for smart city innovations.
“As cities look to implement more large-scale smart street lighting projects, suppliers are beginning to create extensive partner networks to offer cities integrated smart street lighting product offerings that are platform ready.”
The Navigant Research Leaderboard examines the strategy and execution of 14 leading smart street lighting suppliers with the capacity to play a significant role in large-scale deployments. Vendors are rated on 10 criteria: vision; go-to-market strategy; partners; product strategy; geographic reach; market presence; sales, marketing, and distribution; product features and portfolio; product integration; and staying power.
Using Navigant Research’s proprietary Leaderboard methodology, vendors are profiled, rated, and ranked with the goal of providing industry participants with an objective assessment of these companies’ relative strengths and weaknesses in the growing global smart street lighting market.
The top 10 vendors in the leaderboard are:
4 Echelon Corp
6 Current, powered by GE
