Quanergy claims its solution can count people under any lighting conditions

Developer of LiDAR and smart sensing solutions, Quanergy Systems, has introduced a new-generation product for measuring crowd size and customer footfall that can be deployed for the management of people and crowd flows in public areas.

The company claims its Qortex People Counter solution can deliver 98 per cent detection accuracy, anonymously, under any lighting conditions – from pitch dark or indoor to very bright lighting conditions in full sunlight.

Social distancing policies

According to Quanergy, retail spaces, enterprises, public transportation, and outdoor venues can perform accurate counting of people to comply with social distancing policies.

As an integral part of Quanergy’s Flow Management platform, it is also ideal for outdoor “smart space” applications, the company reports.

“As sports stadiums, retail stores and public transportation move towards re-opening their doors and welcome back fans and shoppers, their ability to monitor and analyse crowd density and identify situations that will require immediate actions is paramount in the wake today’s Covid-19 pandemic,” said Enzo Signore, chief marketing officer at Quanergy.

“The release of our new People Counter solution offers such a solution, incorporating LiDAR (light detection and ranging) and advanced perception software to provide accurate, actionable data for management of people and crowd flows in smart buildings and commercial retail locations.”

When integrated with video management systems like Genetec’s Security Centre RSA and PTZ cameras, Quanergy claims the MQ-8 solution “precisely pinpoints” the location of potential threats

As part of the Quanergy Flow Management platform, it can be combined with not only the current M8 mid-range version (3D LiDAR sensors and perception software), but also the newly launched MQ-8 long-range solution, to provide end-to-end flow management solutions across entire airports, malls, stadiums, factories, data centres and corporate buildings.

The MQ-8 solution paired with Qortex DTC perception software, is designed specifically for sophisticated flow management applications, requiring the accurate tracking of large numbers of people and vehicles in complex environments.

When integrated with video management systems like Genetec’s Security Centre RSA and PTZ cameras, Quanergy claims the MQ-8 solution “precisely pinpoints” the location of potential threats, helping reduce costly false alarms and optimising precious security resources.

Critical infrastructures

“Quanergy’s MQ-8 and Qortex DTC provide the most accurate, and longer range 3D LiDAR flow management solution in the market, and it’s ideal to protect critical infrastructures from unwanted intrusions,” added Mark O’Reilly, head of innovation from Quantum Labs.

“Its Qortex Automated ID Handover capability is absolutely unique and provides a powerful solution to track intruders along the perimeter of mission-critical buildings. We have completed field testing of the MQ-8 and the result are very impressive.”

Quanergy claims the current M8 mid-range version is commercially deployed around the world in 25 major smart cities, and more than 20 airports.
