The Role: Senior Editor

 

We are looking for an experienced editor with a proven track record in journalism and leading and developing digital B2B media with a technology focus to manage our editorial team.

 

Primary responsibilities will be to create and edit high quality content to engage our global audience of cities, leaders, their teams, and an ecosystem of partners including leading technology firms, innovative start-ups from a range of sectors as well as NGOs and universities.

 

You will be expected to work closely with colleagues in marketing and commercial to support brand development. Reporting to the CEO, the successful candidate will have excellent editing skills, alongside a strong desire to own, lead and develop our editorial product.

The Successful Applicant

  • Take strategic responsibility for all editorial on SmartCitiesWorld, reporting directly to the CEO
  • Plan and deliver an engaging range of editorial across channels to deliver strategic objectives for the website and engage a global audience.
  • Commission editorial - spanning news, features, in-depth reports, and multimedia content - from professional journalists and community contributors around the world
  • Edit all news and features
  • Write features, reports, analysis, and interviews
  • Oversee social media outreach to maximise audience engagement
  • Monitor and analyse website and social media statistics to ensure growth, engagement, and development of the product
  • Collaborate with commercial team to develop engaging agendas for webinars as well as chairing, writing synopses and invites, as suggesting panellists
  • Lead on sponsored editorial projects, supporting commercial colleagues with both design and delivery
  • Collaborate with marketing and commercial teams with design and delivery of projects
  • Represent SmartCitiesWorld at events (both in-person and online).
  • Attend meetings in the office in city London and regular online meetings

 

Knowledge and experience:

  • With solid experience of technology B2B journalism
  • Demonstrable experience of managing a website including writing, planning, commissioning, and editing for B2B publication
  • Experience of developing and supporting delivery of events
  • Experience of supporting audience research projects
  • Experience of managing commercial clients and balancing editorial and business demands
  • Ability to work with, manage and develop a team with a collaborative style
  • Understanding of UK publishing laws
  • Knowledge of the public sector, service delivery, and/or city and local authority operations would be desirable.

Salary

 

Full time position attractive salary/ freelance fee. It is a remote working
