Demand for Voi e-bikes in Glasgow reaches new high

Glasgow’s Voi bikes have clocked up more than one million hires in less than nine months, since the operator took over the city’s cycle hire scheme last November.

More than 1.1 million hires have been recorded, underlining the growing role hire bikes are playing in everyday travel across Glasgow. Demand hit a new high in July, with 304,644 hires, the busiest month since the scheme relaunched.

Supporting active travel

Usage is now 610 per cent higher than under the previous scheme operator. The growing demand is being supported by a wider network of 195 live stations across the city, making it easier for people to pick up a bike close to home, work, public transport links and local destinations.

Last month’s record hire numbers also coincided with the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, with Voi supporting active travel during the event through free ride bundles for athletes, volunteers and staff, as well as public discounts and incentives for rides to and from Games venues.

Month-on-month growth in hires points to a scheme that is gathering real momentum, with more people turning to hire bikes as a simple and flexible way to move around Glasgow.
