Lab also aims to help build an ecosystem of artificial intelligence workers in London and across Europe
Digital transformation expert Atos has launched an inaugural artificial intelligence (AI) lab in London under the auspices of its global partnership with Google Cloud to help boost the UK technology sector.
The Atos AI lab bids to bring together expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) alongside private and public sector organisational capabilities to collaborate and unlock cross-enterprise opportunities.
The new lab will be available to businesses and public sector organisations across Europe to utilise AI technologies and to define and design use cases relevant to their needs such as, for example, using connected sensors in the supply chain of an energy company to create safer and more efficient operations to using data analytics and machine learning algorithms to reduce fraud in financial services.
“The opening of this first AI Lab marks a new era in enterprise transformation and opportunity,” said Adrian Gregory, CEO, Atos UK & Ireland. “In combining the advanced capabilities of Atos and Google Cloud AI technology, organisations will have access to compelling solutions acting as a springboard to growth in an evolving, digitally focused marketplace.”
According to Atos, the lab will enable it to enrich its data analytics suite Codex Industry Solutions with Google AI and data technologies to provide customers with industry-specific solutions. It will also help build an ecosystem of highly-skilled AI workers in London and across Europe.
“The UK is leading the way when it comes to expertise in artificial intelligence, and the new Atos lab will help to develop this exciting area of technology further,” said Margot James, minister for digital and the creative industries who attended the launch ceremony.

“The new AI labs from Atos will be a valuable resource for European businesses wanting to take advantage of Google Cloud AI capabilities,” continued Paul Emsley-Martin, head of SI partnerships at Google Cloud.
“This is a great next step in our partnership with Atos, and we are delighted to continue working with Atos to bring Google Cloud AI, infrastructure, machine learning and collaboration tools to enterprises worldwide.”
Earlier this year, Atos and Google Cloud established a global partnership to deliver secure hybrid cloud, machine learning, and collaboration solutions to organisations.
Atos also plans to open two additional AI labs located in Paris, France and Dallas, Texas in the US.
