Partnership between PBSC and Tembici is also behind the roll-out of bike-share networks throughout six cities across Brazil
Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Santiago, Chile, are rolling out a bike-sharing service from urban mobility pioneer, PBSC Urban Solutions.
PBSC’s latest deployment in South America will consist of 4,000 of the Iconic model bikes along with 400 solar-powered stations with lit smart map frames within Buenos Aires. Meanwhile 3,850 Fit bikes and over 350 solar-powered stations will be rolled out in Santiago.
All of the bikes are expected to be fully installed from the beginning of 2019.
Buenos Aires and Santiago join a list of six cities across Brazil – São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Recife, Salvador, Porto Alegre and Vila Velha – which have deployed bike-sharing solutions from PBSC in the last 12 months.
With 8,000 bikes already on the streets of Brazil, this brings the total deployment of PBSC bikes to approximately 16,000 across South America.
“It is very exciting to see these world-class cities responding to our urban mobility solution. It is clear there is a demand for our technology,” said Luc Sabbatini, CEO of PBSC Urban Solutions.
“We feel that, with this latest chapter in an era of rapid growth for PBSC, we are truly moving in the right direction as a company, as well as a social movement, to get people of all ages and walks of life highly enthusiastic about bike-sharing and alternative modes of transportation.”
This latest foray is the result of the continued collaboration between PBSC and operator Tembici, a Brazilian company specialising in the operation of bike-sharing systems and the largest company in the industry in South America.

"We are very excited to expand Tembici’s business to cities like Santiago and Buenos Aires. Having PBSC as a partner in this growth further strengthens the shared bicycle market in South America,” added Tomás Martins, CEO of Tembici.
PBSC’s team develops, markets and operates – directly through its subsidiary operator, or indirectly through a global network of local partners – customisable urban solutions for smart cities.
Across the globe, the company claims to have deployed a bike-share network of 65,275 bikes and 5,750 stations.
