Ideas could involve generating energy at a school and then storing that energy at another building, such as a care home
Organisations are being invited to apply for a share of up to £150,000 for ideas to develop a smart energy system that will link Perth and Kinross Council buildings and reduce costs and CO2 emissions.
The requirement for the system is that it should manage and control: the generation of renewable energy; the storage and use of renewable energy; and trade of any excess energy, both within and outside of the council’s estate.
It could involve generating energy at a school, for instance, and then using and storing that energy at another building, such as a care home.
Any proposed solutions must:
Funding is under the Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) and supported by the Can Do Innovation Challenge Fund for business innovation across Scotland.
The best ideas could receive further funding to develop and test them in a second phase. Phase one contracts are expected to be worth up to £30,000 and to last up to six months and phase two contracts are expected to be worth up to £175,000 with a duration of up to 18 months.
Successful projects will receive 100 per cent funded development contacts.
The competition opens on 20 August 2018 and any organisation that can demonstrate a route to market for its idea is eligible to apply. The deadline for registration is at midday on 10 October 2018.
There will also be a briefing event on 28 August where more can be found out about the competition as well as how to submit a “quality application”.
