The survey ahead of CES 2019 set out to separate the hype from what consumers perceive as the high-tech realities that are coming their way
Consumers expect that cities in 2030 will be filled with technology that improves overall quality of life, delivers socially-conscious benefits and personalised experiences. This is according to the findings of a survey of US citizens, carried out ahead of the CES 2019 event in Las Vegas by technology company, Dassault Systèmes, in partnership with market research firm CITE Research.
It found that more than half (51 per cent) expect to be travelling by Hyperloop, around three-quarters to be driving electric/hybrid cars and two-fifths (38 per cent) by air taxi. Overall, citizens expect transportation and mobility to become increasingly electric and connected, improving cost savings, travel time, road safety and quality of life.
More than three-quarters also expect personalised passenger experiences such as navigation path optimisation and city-controlled traffic regulation but the majority expect not to allow access to personal data to benefit from such improved services.
“Consumers expect massive change in every aspect of their lives. It confirms personalised initiatives as the dominating theme behind all innovation"
“This survey on consumer expectations of the city of 2030 allows us to gauge the hype versus what consumers perceive as realities that are truly coming their way,” said Florence Verzelen, executive vice president, industry solutions, field marketing, global affairs, Dassault Systèmes.
“Consumers expect massive change in every aspect of their lives. This glimpse into their thinking offers valuable feedback to companies on what to explore, develop and accelerate.
“It confirms personalised initiatives as the dominating theme behind all innovation. Dassault Systèmes will continue to support industry’s initiatives to meet these consumer expectations with our 3DEXPERIENCE platform.”
