Motorcycle and scooter manufacturer Hero MotoCorp and smart mobility company Gogoro are establishing a battery-swapping joint venture and will collaborate on electric vehicle development.
In a move that aims to accelerate the shift to electric transportation in India, Hero MotoCorp has teamed with Gogoro to bring the Taiwanese manufacturer’s mobility tech to the country.
Hero, the world’s largest manufacturer of motorcycles and scooters, will establish a joint venture to bring Gogoro’s battery swapping platform to India and will collaborate on electric vehicle (EV) development to bring Hero-branded, Gogoro-powered vehicles to market.
“Hero and Gogoro’s vision and commitment are perfectly aligned towards the common goal of accelerating the shift to smart, sustainable electric mobility in India, and around the world,” said Dr Pawan Munjal, chairman and CEO, Hero MotoCorp.
“With this new partnership, we commit to introducing a sustainable mobility paradigm, first in India and then in other markets around the world. This partnership will strengthen and expedite the Indian government’s electrification drive and will have a significant impact on India’s energy and mobility future.”
According to Hero, the strategic agreement will further enhance the work and partnerships that it already has in its EV portfolio including the work which it is conducting at its R&D hubs at the Centre of Innovation and Technology (CIT) in Jaipur and Tech Centre in Germany.

Hero claims the partnership will “strengthen and expedite” the Indian government’s electrification drive and will have a significant impact on India’s energy and mobility future. After introducing the “sustainable mobility paradigm”, to India, the companies want to extend it to other markets around the world.
“We are at a critical stage in the transformation of urban mobility and the evolution of smart cities. With more than 225 million gas-powered two wheel vehicles in India, the need for smart and sustainable electric transportation and refuelling is vital,” said Horace Luke, founder, and CEO, Gogoro Inc.
