While smart charging is already in use for home charging and at dedicated public EV charging bays, SmartStep claims to be the first demonstration of smart charging in shared parking spaces on residential streets.
Green tech start-up Trojan Energy is installing 200 of its chargers across Brent and Camden as part of the Subsurface Technology for Electric Pathways project.
Led by the city council, the scheme brings together energy generation, demand and storage and aims to deliver a significant drop in CO2 emissions by 2030 and cut energy bills by up to a quarter.
