Smart city solutions provider Urban Control is working with Nordic Semiconductor on the streetlight luminaire controller that can scale-up to millions of lights and connect over local cellular IoT networks.
Urban Control said it will enable cities and authorities to connect IoT devices globally via cellular networks for a one-off price per device over a period of 10 years.
The three-year project will see around 89,000 streetlamps replaced or retrofitted with energy efficient LEDs and is predicted to save around 7,700 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.
The official partnership comes after a series of successful collaborations in the UK with the City of London, City of Glasgow, London Borough of Brent and City of Westminster.
