Stockholm is the capital and largest city in Sweden, as well as the largest in Scandinavia. It has a population of approximately one million, and stretches across fourteen islands. The city holds particular cultural, political, and economic significance, accounting for over a third of the country’s GDP. It is the main centre for corporate headquarters in the Nordic region, and has been classed as an alpha-global city. In 2019, Stockholm was awarded the World Smart City Award.
