Improving air quality is one of the most immediate and tangible ways cities can protect public health, advance environmental justice, and build urban resilience in the face of climate change. This panel explores how local governments can integrate air quality strategies into broader urban agendas by combining technology, data, policy innovation, and community engagement. Points for discussion include:
  • How cities are using real-time monitoring, AI-driven analytics, and integrated data platforms to detect pollution patterns, inform decision-making, and enable faster, more targeted responses
  • The tools and governance models cities are adopting to set ambitious local air quality targets, enforce emissions controls, and embed air quality goals across departments and regulations
  • How air quality strategies are being aligned with wider climate and resilience plans – such as low-carbon transport, green infrastructure, and heat adaptation – to deliver co-benefits and long-term impact
  • Ways in which cities are partnering with communities to co-design air quality programmes, communicate data accessibly, and ensure equity in both exposure reduction and the benefits of cleaner air.
