Cities cannot meet their net-zero ambitions without strong, coordinated partnerships with energy providers and network operators. This session explores how utilities, distribution system operators and local authorities can co-design pathways that balance electrification demand, expand flexibility services and modernise network infrastructure. It will highlight how cities can shape regulatory conversations, influence investment decisions and create shared planning frameworks that accelerate resilient, decarbonised energy systems.

Key talking points:

  • How cities can work with utilities and DSOs to co-develop integrated energy and grid transition plans
  • Strengthening local flexibility markets through joint pilots, data sharing and tariff design
Influencing long-term network investment by aligning city development plans with grid needs
  • Ensuring fair, accessible energy outcomes through collaborative planning of electrified transport, heating and distributed renewables
