Watch this webinar with Paradox Engineering OnDemand to learn how to navigate the world of open standards for cities that are interoperable and futureproof.
Date Recorded: Thursday 27 March 2025
Length: 60 minutes + Q&A
As cities embrace digital transformation, ensuring long-term flexibility, adaptability, and efficiency in smart infrastructure is more critical than ever. While proprietary and closed networks can be reliable, they can also lock cities into rigid systems, limit innovation, and drive up costs over time. To truly future-proof urban development, cities must embrace interoperability – the ability of different systems, technologies, and services to work together seamlessly.
In this webinar with Paradox Engineering, we bring together industry experts to discuss the importance of open standards and interoperability in making smart cities fit for today and tomorrow. We explore how adopting open and adaptable systems can empower cities to integrate secure new technologies, introduce innovative services, and avoid vendor lock-in – all while making cost-effective, future-ready investments.
Key lessons and discussion points
The rapid advancement of smart city solutions means that cities must make strategic technology decisions that will stand the test of time. With a growing number of standards emerging across different technology layers, navigating the landscape can be complex. Cities risk fragmentation and inefficiency if they don’t have a clear strategy for ensuring interoperability across their infrastructure. In this webinar, our experts address how cities can take the right approach to creating an ecosystem where technology works for them and their residents – not against them. We break the discussion down into several parts to focus on:
Don’t miss this opportunity to gain expert insights and practical guidance on how to make smart, interoperable technology choices that will shape the cities of tomorrow.

Guillermo Del Campo Technical Coordinator, IoT Laboratory of Madrid (IoTMADLab)
Dr. Guillermo del Campo is the Technical Coordinator of the IoT Laboratory of Madrid (IoTMADLab) alongside serving as Assistant Professor at Technical University of Madrid (UPM). IoTMADLab is a joint initiative from the Madrid City Council and the Technical University of Madrid (UPM) and funded by Forum of Companies for Madrid. The goal of the IoTMADLab is to define IoT connectivity framework so that all Municipal Areas have a reference and know the real possibilities of these technologies. Besides, the laboratory provides a physical place where IoT devices from any technology provider can be tested in a neutral way, guaranteeing a secure and interoperable configuration so that it can be scalable.
