In February 2018, SmartCitiesWorld undertook a global survey, which looked at the growing trend in the adoption of cloud-based platforms rather than point-to-point connectivity for smart city solutions. This report covers some of the results from the survey, but also looks at how the Internet of Things (IoT) powers many smart city services which benefit citizens, businesses and city municipalities.
As smart cities reach a tipping point, driven by advances in technology and escalating urban challenges, IoT is creating fresh opportunities for companies to generate additional revenue and to tap brand new business models. The key to success is being fast, agile and flexible enough to meet cities’needs in a complex and fast-changing environment.
We surveyed over 147 thought leaders – from telecommunications companies, systems integrators and IoT solutions developers – to take an up-to-date snapshot on the IoT opportunity, the role IoT platforms play in bringing smart cities solutions to life, the scale of adoption and the remaining challenges.
