The Aberdeen City Region Deal (ACRD) has announced the launch of the Digital Challenge Fund.
The £2.3m initiative is designed to support technology-led projects that harness the power of digital innovation to boost the region’s position as a digital leader.
Aimed at businesses, public sector organisations, research institutions, non-profits and community groups, this fund will provide capital investment to support transformational projects to deliver:
Organisations interested in delivering impactful digital projects across Aberdeen City Region are invited to submit proposals for application guidance.
“As we near the end of our City Region Deal, it is exciting to be in a position to offer an opportunity such as this, creating a legacy in digital innovation,” said councillor Anne Stirling, chair of the ACRD Joint Committee.
“We are keen to champion digital projects in all forms and I am sure there are a lot of exciting areas of work which could benefit from being accelerated by this fund. I encourage organisations large and small to engage with this opportunity and help accelerate our digital reach.”
The Digital Challenge Fund supports Aberdeen City Region Deal’s broader mission to accelerate sustainable economic growth, nurture new industries and strengthen the region’s standing as a hub of digital excellence.

The Aberdeen City Region Deal is the agreement between the UK Government and the Scottish Government with Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeenshire Council and Opportunity North East (One) as one delivery mechanism for the Region’s economic vision which focuses on transformational investment supporting the evolution of the region’s key sectors, sustainable business growth and creating green jobs for the future.
“Our region is ready to lead when it comes to digital innovation – this Challenge Fund is a major step in making that vision a reality,” said councillor Ian Yuill, Aberdeen City Council vice chair of the Aberdeen City Region Deal Joint Committee. “By investing in projects that embrace emerging technologies, we are building a smarter, more inclusive future for all residents and businesses across our region. I’m excited to see the creative and impactful initiatives that come forward.”
