The Routing Company (TRC) has launched an on-demand transit partnership with Sarah Car Care (SCC), a broker for Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s (WMATA) Abilities-Ride programme.
Under this partnership, SCC is using TRC’s Pingo platform with the goal of improving on-time performance and rider satisfaction. The service officially launched in April 2025. WMATA’s Abilities-Ride programme offers subsidised trips to ADA-certified riders opting into the Abilities-Ride programme.
Abilities-Ride is intended to complement WMATA’s core MetroAccess paratransit service by offering greater flexibility, improved reliability, and real-time technology.
Powered by TRC’s Pingo platform, the service operates Monday through Sunday from 1:00pm to 10:00pm and is currently structured as an advance-booking model with day-before trip booking. It is designed to accommodate paratransit riders who have opted into receiving non-MetroAccess trips, with rides now managed and routed through TRC’s technology.
The programme focuses on optimising vehicle supply and improving cost-efficiency by leveraging TRC’s live scheduling capabilities and shift management tools. While sharing is currently disabled, future enhancements may include commingling options to further increase productivity and reduce cost per trip.
“We’re excited to enhance the Abilities-Ride programme with real-time dispatching, improved communications, reliable reporting, and a scalable technology foundation,” said Mohamed Mohamedein, VP at Sarah Car Care. “Partnering with TRC allows us to streamline operations and deliver a better, more consistent rider experience.”
The programme’s early KPIs focus on ensuring a minimum of one passenger per vehicle revenue hour and improving on-time performance. The current scope includes use cases such as medical appointments, pharmacy visits, and other essential trips for ADA-certified individuals.

“We are honoured to partner with Sarah Car Care to deliver an efficient and flexible service that expands mobility options for riders with disabilities,” added Dami Adebayo, director of partnerships at the Routing Company. “Our Pingo platform ensures real-time responsiveness, accurate reporting, and reduced missed trips – empowering riders while helping manage paratransit demand more sustainably.”
