Smart Cities, Big Data and the Built Environment: What’s Required?

However, 96% of people are unaware of smart city initiatives in their own city according to a report by YouGov and Arqiva (Arqiva, 2016).

SmartCitiesWorld is hosting a 54 page report from RICS (Royal Institute of Charter Surveyors) which focuses on the interconnected agendas of smart cities, big data and open data for the built environment.

The research looks at how people in built environment professions, including architects, planners and engineers can benefit from data platforms at city level.

The research examines:

• The drivers and barriers for big data platforms at city level in the UK and internationally
• Key trends in the development and opening up of big data in cities
• The opportunities to use big data creatively and innovatively to add value to their professional work

The report also highlights four city case studies in Bristol, Milton Keynes, Amsterdam and Taipei; and provides policy and practice implications.
