NYnet can utilise the LoRaWan network to cover all aspects of council operations including social care, parking, public health, and other initiatives.
Smart technology and digital provider Connexin and connectivity specialist NYnet have signed a LoRaWan network sharing and operations agreement with a view to rapidly expanding the IoT network infrastructure across North Yorkshire in the UK.
The partners report the network collaboration and enhanced capability will allow both organisations to improve the network to reach more customers and bring more benefits to residents and communities.
NYnet’s LoRaWan network currently covers 85 per cent of the geographical area of North Yorkshire. The partnership will allow Connexin to further expand LoRaWan connectivity with an additional 57 gateways. The expansion will support the roll out of a new smart network as part of the Yorkshire Water advanced meter infrastructure (AMI) roll-out.
For NYnet, an organisation owned by North Yorkshire Council, combining its own network with Connexin’s well established LoRaWan network will enable a range of benefits for residents. NYnet can utilise the network to cover all aspects of council operations including social care, parking, public health, and other initiatives such as parking, bins and air quality monitoring in schools.
“Not only will this ensure more Yorkshire Water customers receive the services they need, but we can also continue to gain coverage for other customers across the region by roaming with NYnet”
“Connexin is rapidly establishing itself as the de facto national LoRaWan provider and we are extremely pleased to be partnering across North Yorkshire to assist them in increasing coverage across our region,” said Alastair Taylor, chief executive fficer at NYnet.
“We look forward to working closely together on this project and offering businesses, citizens and organisations in North Yorkshire with opportunities to benefit from our far-reaching network offering.”
The partnership between both organisations includes a revenue share model agreement whereby each party can openly roam onto the others’ network service at no cost, enabling true network collaboration. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of April 2024 with 57 new gateways installed.
“Our new partnership with NYnet is something we are incredibly excited about,” added Ralph Varcoe, chief growth officer at Connexin.
“Not only will this ensure more Yorkshire Water customers receive the services they need, but we can also continue to gain coverage for other customers across the region by roaming with NYnet. This true innovative partnership approach will help to further digitise the region.”
