Lime, a provider of shared electric vehicles, has announced the introduction of a new subscription model, LimePrime, across London, Milton Keynes, Oxford, Salford and Nottingham.
The revamped model has been launched to support the UK government’s Department for Transport’s aims to make more active travel options affordable and easily accessible for all amid rising costs of living. LimePrime brings Lime’s pricing in line with, or below, local public transport costs for frequent riders.
For a monthly fee, LimePrime subscribers will unlock reduced, flat-rates on rides up to 20 minutes, with pricing tailored to each city, reflecting local market conditions and demand patterns:
Subscribers will also benefit from unlimited free unlocks, extended 30-minute vehicle reservations, and gain access to flat-rate pricing for friends and family on group rides where available.
The rollout comes as the secretary of state for transport, Heidi Alexander, underlines the importance of maintaining affordability and accessibility in active and sustainable transport: “This government wants to ensure active travel is affordable and accessible for everyone.
“It’s clear that the cost of living continues to be a very real pressure for families and commuters. That’s why we’re backing shared cycle schemes that are delivered in partnership with local leaders.”
Alexander added: “I’m delighted to see Lime making shared cycles more affordable. We will continue to work closely with the industry to make them a low-cost transport option across the country.”
“This new pricing model will offer an easy and more affordable travel option for people to get around, whether it is commuting to work, visiting friends or running errands”
“We regularly meet with national and local governments in the UK, and understand the importance of maintaining an affordable and easily accessible service. We heard this feedback and are proud to launch our new LimePrime subscription in multiple cities across the UK,” said Wayne Ting, CEO of Lime.
“This new pricing model will offer an easy and more affordable travel option for people to get around, whether it is commuting to work, visiting friends or running errands. With more people choosing e-bikes everyday, we want to build on that momentum and support the Department for Transport’s ambitions to make sure active travel is not only cleaner, but affordable and accessible too.”
LimePrime is intended to complement Lime’s existing LimePass minute bundles, providing riders with more flexibility to choose the option that best fits their travel needs.
