MobiAzores is working with UbiRider to implement the contactless travel platform on bus services operating on the Portuguese island of Terceira.
MobiAzores, which provides bus services on the Portuguese island of Terceira in the Azores, has gone live with the UbiRider mobility-as-a-service (MaaS) platform.
It enables riders to pay on board buses with their contactless bank card, smartphone or smartwatch without the need for a physical ticket.
Terceira is the first Portuguese island to implement the Contactless EMV payment system. MobiAzores manages 15 buses on the island of Terceira which serve the public transportation needs, connecting various parts of the island, including the major towns of Angra do Heroísmo and Praia da Vitória.
The implementation of UbiRider’s platform not only ensures that both locals and tourists can travel around the island conveniently, accessing its scenic and cultural attractions, but also provides more valuable, real-time insights into passenger trends for MobiAzores, giving the transportation firm the ability to make business decisions to optimise services.
In 2022, UbiRider and Mastercard embarked on a mission to enhance the public transportation experience worldwide. This partnership uses UbiRider’s platform and Mastercard’s payment solutions to create seamless, contactless travel experience by integrating UbiRider’s platform with open-loop contactless payments through the Tap-on-Phone technology.
The first operation to combine the UbiRider Platform with Tap-on-Phone technology was launched with Trevo bus service in Évora, Portugal. Implementations in the Portguese cities of Faro, Lisbon followed.
The MaaS platform also provides real-time insights into passenger trends for MobiAzores, giving it the ability to make business decisions to optimise services
The UbiRider mobility-as-a-service platform includes mobile and web components that aim to serve the interests and needs of travellers and mobility operators. It also offers the MaaS app, Pick, which helps travellers determine the best option for every journey, combining traditional and more modern modes of transportation from buses and ferries to carsharing and micromobility.
Based in Porto, Portugal, UbiRider is a strategic partner of Mastercard, Deloitte, PayShop and Viva.com.
