Netmore said acquisition of Actility means cities can access scalable, cost-effective connectivity without the barriers that have previously slowed progress.
At a glance
Who: Netmore Group; Actility.
What: Netmore has acquired Paris-based Actility and its subsidiary Abeeway. The acquisition brings Netmore thousands of LoRaWan project deployments across more than 100 countries, partnerships with over 50 LoRaWan network operators, and a customer base that includes tier-1 operators and global utility and manufacturing leaders.
Why: The acquisition strengthens Netmore’s position in its primary vertical segments, which includes smart cities, alongside utilities and buildings. It said it enables local authorities to access scalable, cost-effective connectivity without the barriers that have historically slowed progress.
When: The acquisition creates the world’s largest LoRaWan network, with more than 14 million contracted IoT devices across the globe.
Netmore Group, the network operator for massive Internet of Things (IoT), has acquired Paris-based Actility, a specialist in low-power wide-area network (LPWan) solutions across Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Australia. Netmore has also acquired its subsidiary Abeeway, a leader in ultra-low power multi-technology geolocation.
The acquisition creates the world’s largest LoRaWan network, with more than 14 million contracted IoT devices across Netmore and Actility ThingPark-powered networks. It also unites a previously fragmented market.
The acquisition strengthens Netmore’s position in its primary vertical segments, which includes smart cities, alongside utilities and buildings, while expanding reach into the enterprise, industrial, asset tracking, and operator sectors.
One of the original authors of the LoRaWan specification and a founding member of the LoRa Alliance, Actility brings Netmore thousands of LoRaWan project deployments across more than 100 countries, partnerships with over 50 LoRaWan network operators, and a customer base that includes tier-1 operators and global utility and manufacturing leaders.
“This means faster, more reliable rollouts of connected solutions that create resilient, data-driven cities”
Ove Anebygd, CEO of Netmore Group, said the acquisition of Actility represents significant opportunities for municipalities and local governments deploying smart city applications.
“Through existing and new public LoRaWan network deployments, global network operator partnerships, and the market’s most expansive ecosystem of solution providers, local authorities can now access scalable, cost-effective connectivity without the barriers that have historically slowed progress,” said Anebygd. “This means faster, more reliable rollouts of connected solutions that create resilient, data-driven cities.”
The combined portfolio will enable faster rollouts of high-density meter and low-cost sensor projects, reduced total cost of ownership, and reliable connectivity even in the challenging settings. Key additions to Netmore’s offerings include:
Olivier Hersent, CEO of Actility, said: “Joining Netmore is a transformative step for Actility, our customers, and the market. Our shared commitment to advancing IoT innovation creates a unique opportunity to power some of the most advanced IoT solutions globally.
“Through our close alignment on values, culture, and commitment to service, we can accelerate adoption across industries, enabling operators and enterprises to unlock the full potential of connected ecosystems. Together, we will make LoRaWan the default infrastructure for massive IoT.”
“For Orange, the acquisition supports the continued operation of our LoRaWan-based enterprise and smart-territory solutions and maintains a solid partnership for the delivery of IoT projects”
Orange is operator of one of the largest public LoRaWan networks powered by the Actility ThingPark platform and has a decade-long partnership with Actility to drive innovation across public and private sectors.
“As a long-standing strategic partner and one of the largest users of Actility’s ThingPark platform, we welcome this exciting milestone for Actility and Netmore,” said Etienne Robert head of Unified Communications, Network & IoT Integration of Orange Business.”
“For Orange, the acquisition supports the continued operation of our LoRaWan-based enterprise and smart-territory solutions and maintains a solid partnership for the delivery of IoT projects. We see this consolidation as very positive news for the entire European IoT ecosystem.”
Netmore’s acquisition of Actility also merges Netmore’s network infrastructure and solution partners with Actility’s online marketplace and channel and solution provider network.
