Siemens Mobility subsidiaries Hacon and Padam Mobility are supplying a software-as-a-service solution for the on-demand mobility project Burgenland Call-a-Shuttle (Bast), which is being implemented by Burgenland Mobility (Verkehrsbetriebe Burgenland) in the province of Burgenland, Austria.
In the future, passengers will be able to use the Bast app to book on-demand mobility services in the region. Until now, this was only possible by telephone.
The aim of the project is to digitise the booking system and expand it to cover the entire province. As part of the system expansion, the booking and dispatching systems currently in use will also be converted to a uniform software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution.
The service complements existing public transport. For example, the on-demand services serve as feeders to regular bus routes in the mornings. The services are also integrated into the regional tariff system.
“Verkehrsbetriebe Burgenland is taking the next step towards modern, climate-friendly, and citizen-oriented mobility”
With the planned deployment of 60 vehicles, it represents the largest on-demand mobility project in Austria and marks a significant step towards modern and flexible mobility solutions in Burgenland.
“Verkehrsbetriebe Burgenland is taking the next step towards modern, climate-friendly, and citizen-oriented mobility, making public transport in Burgenland even more attractive with the Bast app,” said Johannes Jandrisevits, managing director of Verkehrsbetriebe Burgenland.
“This will make mobility in Burgenland more flexible and better tailored to the needs of the local population.”
As part of the project, a multi-client and multi-language capable booking and dispatch software is being provided, specially developed for demand-oriented mobility services by Hacon’s sister company, Padam Mobility.
The Padam Mobility Software Suite, including its associated apps, is based on a system architecture that ensures 24/7 operation and the necessary support structure. Bast also integrates public transport data from Verkehrsauskunft Österreich (VAO), an intermodal timetable information system developed by Hacon, to further improve the user experience.
“The BAST app demonstrates how our software enhances passenger experience by enabling seamless intermodal door-to-door transport,” said Devina Pasta, CEO of Siemens Mobility Software. “The new digital offering makes sustainable mobility in Burgenland more accessible and flexible. We are grateful for the trusted partnership with Verkehrsbetriebe Burgenland in this lighthouse project for Austria.”
