The City of Coquitlam in Canada is working with UrbanLogiq to use data analytics to help make its streets safer and better manage its parks and public areas.

The City of Coquitlam in British Columbia, Canada, is working with UrbanLogiq on a two-year pilot project that uses smart technology to focus on making improvements in three areas: safer streets; the local economy; and public park management.
The pilot is facilitated by Project Greenlight, a procurement platform that fast-tracks civic innovations.
Mark Masongsong, CEO and co-founder, UrbanLogiq, said the company will apply its advanced analytics to create real-world benefits for the city. “Our core mission at UrbanLogiq has always been to unlock the potential of cities through data-driven insights,” he said. “By teaming up with a forward-thinking city like Coquitlam, we’re not just envisioning a better future; we’re actively building it.”
As part of the project, the City of Coquitlam’s public works team will use the UrbanLogiq Crash Analysis tool to enable staff to use five years’ of detailed crash data to identify hazardous locations and conditions and proactively address such hotspots.
“We look forward to partnering with UrbanLogiq to consolidate, visualise and analyse local data in order to encourage new investment and build sustainable economic clusters”
Whether it’s a problematic intersection or a stretch of road that’s particularly dangerous, this initiative aims to pinpoint and mitigate risks, ensuring safer streets.
To support local businesses, UrbanLogiq is helping policymakers gain access to insights into the health of the commercial districts. By merging up-to-date census data with local business licensing information, the city aims to assess and enhance the vitality of retail and commercial areas. Additionally, powered through the UrbanLogiq platform, staff can evaluate the economic impact of large events by analysing spending patterns, offering valuable insights for business strategies.
“The City of Coquitlam’s recently approved Economic Development Strategy lists several key actions to attract, grow and support our local business community,” said Eric Kalnins, acting manager, economic development, City of Coquitlam. “We look forward to partnering with UrbanLogiq to consolidate, visualise and analyse local data in order to encourage new investment and build sustainable economic clusters.”
Data and analysis will also be central to managing parks and public spaces in Coquitlam. The Park and Site Visitation Analysis tool in the UrbanLogiq platform will utilise data to measure the volume of visitors, enabling better resource management and assisting with planning.
By partnering with UrbanLogiq, Coquitlam is signalling its commitment to pioneering smarter, innovative solutions that can enhance the lives of its residents. “This comprehensive approach highlights the transformative power of strategic alliances,” said John McPherson at the Vancouver Economic Commission. “As cities like Coquitlam set the benchmark, it offers a vivid blueprint for other cities to holistically enhance economic vibrancy and wellbeing.”
