The city is aiming to create a single public charging network for electric vehicles that will provide an agile, affordable and easy charging experience.
Barcelona City Council and the Government of Catalonia (the Generalitat) are creating a single public charging network for electric vehicles that will provide an agile, affordable, comfortable and easy charging experience.
It is being implemented within the framework of the Electric Vehicle Promotion Plan 2025-2030.
In collaboration between L’Energètica, the public energy company of Catalonia, and the electromobility network Endolla Barcelona, more than 9000 charging points will be installed in public buildings and road infrastructure throughout Catalonia by 2030.
The city council said a preliminary study will be carried out on the current state of the power network and the use of the charging infrastructure in Catalonia to analyse the projection of future demand. It will also cover an analysis of mobility, technology, innovation, planning and operational trends in electric mobility.
In 2024, Endolla Barcelona had registered a 27 per cent increase in use compared to the previous year, with an average of 15,000 monthly recharges and more than 41,000 registered users
Endolla Barcelona has 1,027 charging points distributed throughout the city and claims to be the largest public network of public access charging points in southern Europe.
In 2024, it had registered a 27 per cent increase in use compared to the previous year, with an average of 15,000 monthly recharges and more than 41,000 registered users.
The network will be implemented in four phases. In the first two, which will have a budget of €150m, the plan is to install 5,000 points to service the Generalitat’s fleet and 4,000 public access charging points in collaboration with the private sector.
A prior study will allow the design of the third phase of implementation of charging stations and the fourth phase will explore the electrification of electric buses to guarantee the continuous operation of the service on all intercity lines, in accordance with the conditions of the Generalitat’s public transport concession.
