Dolomiti Bus, the public transport operator serving the Belluno province and the Dolomites region, is strengthening its operational capacity ahead of the Milano–Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
It is introducing 14 new buses equipped with latest technologies to support the event that will bring together more than 3,500 athletes from 93 countries across a record-breaking 22,000-square-kilometre area.
Millions of additional journeys are expected during the Olympic period. The new fleet includes five Setra S531 DT double-deckers, four Mercedes-Benz Citaro K Hybrid city buses and five Mercedes Tourismo coaches.
The fleet has an average age of just six years, which is among the lowest in Italy and in line with leading European operators.
“Our buses will accompany athletes, workers, volunteers and spectators throughout the event. In this sense, they will ‘coach the Olympics themselves’.”
Dolomiti Bus provides mobility services in the Veneto region. Since 2017, it has supported the Dolomites Unesco Foundation by promoting and providing sustainable and integrated mobility in the Dolomite valleys, managing both local public transport and tourist transport services.
All vehicles are equipped with advanced safety and on-board technologies, including ADAS systems, CCTV, fire-suppression equipment, passenger-counting sensors, next-generation ticket validators, and USB charging ports.
During the Olympic period, the new Setra S531 DT will operate on the most demanding corridors leading to Cortina d’Ampezzo, one of the flagship Olympic venues hosting disciplines such as women’s alpine skiing, bobsleigh, skeleton, curling and luge.
With long distances between venues and a mobility system based on park-and-ride facilities, dedicated shuttles and last-mile services, buses will play a key role in ensuring smooth and efficient mobility.
Dolomiti Bus said it is preparing to do more than transport spectators: it is getting ready to “coach the Games”, bringing people directly into the heart of the Dolomites.
“Our continuous investments in fleet renewal are even more significant in the year when the world’s attention turns to our mountains,” said CEO Stefano Rossi. “Our buses will accompany athletes, workers, volunteers and spectators throughout the event. In this sense, they will ‘coach the Olympics themselves’.”
The €5.2m investment presented today forms part of a broader €12m fleet renewal programme implemented over the past six months. It follows the introduction of 23 low- and zero-emission vehicles in 2025 and reflects a long-term industrial strategy designed to support the mobility effort required by Milano-Cortina 2026.
