A bundled offering will combine datasets and machine learning to identify how cities can reduce serious and fatal crashes as well as inform future safety strategies.
Mobility data and analytics company StreetLight Data and Ford Mobility are collaborating to offer a set of safety solutions designed to help reduce serious and fatal crashes, as well as identify data-driven actions for informing transport strategies.
The solutions, which combine data-driven insights and machine learning, are aimed at cities, local government agencies and departments of transportation in the US and Canada.
The Safety Solutions by StreetLight and Ford Mobility bundled offering aims to provide customers with a multi-modal viewpoint of transportation and data-driven safety insights across a state, region, or city to tackle bike, pedestrian, and vehicle safety issues.
Ford Mobility’s Safety Insights tool makes use of crash data and connected vehicle data around near-misses to identify safety hotspots and also helps simulate the estimated impact of potential mitigations.
The companies stated that when paired with the StreetLight InSight multi-modal mobility software-as-a-service platform, it allows users to zero in on opportunities to help reduce serious and fatal crashes, while running further analyses to identify data-driven actions for next steps in investing in traffic safety.
“This kind of collation and analysis was previously very time-consuming and often lacked any visual representation”
“Safety Insights combines multiple datasets, including connected vehicle data, in a way that allows transportation planners to quickly sort and filter down to safety events of interest and then simulate the predicted impact of counter-measures for potential implementation,” said Cal Coplai, product owner of Safety Insights at Ford Mobility, a subsidiary of Ford Motor Company.
“This kind of collation and analysis was previously very time-consuming and often lacked any visual representation to help planners and engineers rapidly identify, analyse and recommend countermeasures for particular safety concerns.”
The joint offering features three key pillars, including the ability to:
“Recent national trends about transportation safety are not positive – for drivers, pedestrians, or bicyclists. We are thrilled to work with Ford Mobility to help our industry take smart, targeted steps to reduce injuries and fatalities, by prioritising the right locations,” added StreetLight CEO Laura Schewel.
