The smart city concept has shifted since the Covid-19 pandemic to become more focused on sustainability, equity, inclusivity, and liveability in our cities, yet at the heart of this remains the use of data and connected technology to deliver better services for citizens.

It’s projected that there will be more than 53 million active IoT connections in cities in the EU alone by 2025 – up from just over a million in 2016 – and seamless connectivity will be critical in moving and processing data to support city authorities and agencies in providing more efficient and fit for purpose public services. The advent of 5G and its application in industry has marked a change in what’s possible for the public and private sectors, and their operations in cities, and with more city testbeds emerging, progress is being made a quicker rate than at any point in the last decade.

In this panel discussion, SmartCitiesWorld is bringing together experts from across the urban landscape to share their successes and their knowledge in working with these connected and connective technologies in the real world, including:

  • How 5G is improving the efficiency of city services and communications
  • How data is being used to improve services for citizens at an increasingly bespoke level
  • The role of data and connectivity in public safety
  • The culmination of these technologies into digital twin applications and next-gen city dashboards
