Micromobility operator Lime has announced it is strengthening its e-bike and e-scooter operations in Milan as the city prepares to host major international sporting events, including competitions taking place at the Winter Olympic Games’ venues across the metropolitan area.
Building on its experience operating in global cities during large-scale events, Lime aims to facilitate smooth travel across Milan and help support residents, domestic travellers and international visitors, while, at the same time, reducing congestion around key transport hubs and venues.
Lime claims its operational strategy in Milan draws directly from the deployment of its shared e-bike service in Paris during the summer 2024 Games. Over the summer of 2024, more than 3.4 million trips were completed on Lime bikes in Paris, with 60 per cent of riders identified as Games visitors. In total, riders covered more than five million kilometres, supported by a daily fleet of 15,000 shared e-bikes.
With some two million visitors expected to attend the Winter Olympic Games sporting event, Lime said it will work closely with the City of Milan to support increased demand for everyday transportation while ensuring a high-quality, safe and reliable service during peak demand periods:
“The city has undergone a gradual but meaningful transition, with more people shifting away from private cars and mopeds toward bikes and e-scooters, supported by expanding cycling infrastructure”
According to Lime, these measures are designed to maximise vehicle availability, improve service reliability, and ensure that its fleet remains in optimal condition throughout the event period.
Lime reports that it continues to work closely with local authorities and partners to ensure its service integrates seamlessly into Milan’s broader mobility ecosystem.
Since May 2025, Lime has expanded its Milan fleet with the launch of its latest-generation bike, the LimeBike, complementing an already diverse offering that includes e-scooters, fourth-generation e-bikes, and e-bikes equipped with child seats.
“Our experience in Paris showed that during major events, micromobility is not just a convenient option, but a critical part of the transport system”
Matteo Cioffio, regional director for Lime in Central Europe, said: “We are incredibly excited to support a global event of this scale in Milan and to help showcase how shared micromobility has slowly become essential to how we get around in the city. In recent years, the city has undergone a gradual but meaningful transition, with more people shifting away from private cars and mopeds toward bikes and e-scooters, supported by expanding cycling infrastructure and a growing focus on sustainability.”
Cioffio added: “At Lime, our experience in Paris showed that during major events, micromobility is not just a convenient option, but a critical part of the transport system.”
Lime reckons its electric vehicle range in Milan is comprehensive, offering a variety of options tailored to all types of journeys and rider profiles – from international visitors discovering micromobility for the first time to experienced local riders.
