The City of Gold Coast in Australia is launching a homeowner disaster resilience programme.
Forty homeowners will receive a free on-site expert resilience assessment to help them reduce disaster risk and prepare for extreme weather.
The Household Resilience Ratings Programme, which the City is conducting in partnership with the Resilient Building Council, will also see a further 1000 homeowners take part in a first of its kind, free self-assessment programme.
Mayor Tom Tate said it was important to have a clearer picture of the resilience of homes across the Gold Coast and to identify where improvements could be made.

The programme provides individuals with the information they need to strengthen and prepare their homes against natural hazards and provides the City with a clearer picture of the state of residential property preparedness and resilience, and how likely they are to withstand different event types.

Mayor Tate said the properties would be chosen against selection criteria prioritising properties exposed to multiple natural hazards including flooding, bushfire, severe storms and cyclones.
He added: “And we want to represent a diverse range of housing types, construction methods and building ages to ensure we have a full picture.”
