Bus depot to become Barcelona’s first all-electric facility

The bus depot at Triangle Ferroviari in the Sant Andreu district, operated by Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB), is to become the first all-electric facility of its kind in Barcelona.

The depot has been gradually updated since 2020 to accommodate the increasing number of electric buses in TMB’s fleet. Work is expected to be completed by 2026, at which point all of the facility’s vehicle parking spaces will be equipped with charging stations.

Phased electrification programme

Triangle Ferroviari is one of TMB’s four operational bus centres. In addition to the depot, the building houses the Bus Control Centre, which manages the daily operation of the 900 TMB buses that circulate in the Spanish city.

Phases three and four of the electrification process have just been completed, with 50 charging stations now in operation. This milestone comes at the same time as TMB’s launch in August of the tender for the final phase five, which will involve the installation of a further 63 electric chargers, bringing the total to 176 once the facility is completed in 2026.
