The Smart Urban Co-Innovation Lab, led by Southeast Asian real estate group, CapitaLand, is collaborating with Kone Corporation to foster innovation, creativity and deploy smart city solutions in Singapore.

Over the years, elevator and escalator company Kone said it has been working at the intersection of seamless people flow, smart innovation and the future of urban living. Meanwhile, the lab seeks to bring together leaders in the smart cities space to co-create and test innovations at CapitaLand’s 5G-enabled Singapore Science Park.

Safer user journeys

Adopting a “digital-by-design” approach to business, Kone claims to have collaborated with governments, city commissions, urban planners and property developers in several global markets to recreate safer user journeys and to create greener, sustainable, and smarter everyday urban environments.

“The lab will serve as an open platform where diverse industry players come together to tackle today’s pressing issues such as smart mobility, intelligent urban development, sustainability among others,” said Axel Berkling, executive vice president, Kone Asia Pacific

“The lab will also play a key role in shaping the future of living in Singapore – to be smarter and more sustainable.” Singapore is the regional innovation hub for Kone, and we are excited to be a part of such a critical collaborative movement that integrates the deeper physical environment with smart digital capabilities.”

“We welcome Kone and its partners to be part of the growing Smart Urban Co-Innovation Lab communities, where we can better exchange ideas, strengthen Singapore’s built environment ecosystems, explore opportunities and new business models, as well as facilitate deployment of innovative smart cities solutions,” added Aylwin Tan, chief customer solutions officer of CapitaLand Group.

Kone has been an active urban development and sustainability player in Singapore since 1978. In 2018, it opened a state-of-the-art experience centre in Singapore. Located at MapleTree Industrial New Hi-Tech Space, the 25,000-square-feet facility houses both Kone’s Asia Pacific headquarters and Singapore operations, as well as a 24/7 call centre and the new feature, the People Flow Experience Centre.

In 2020, Kone won an order to support smart and smooth people flow requirements in the integrated business park development at the Punggol Digital District.
