Transport strategy consultancy, Mobility Lab UK, has released a live version of its Future of Mobility Scenario game

The consultancy works with policy-makers to put the needs of their citizens at the heart of their strategies and describes it as a “serious game”, which is defined as a game whose primary purpose is not entertainment.

Future of mobility

The game aims to allow transport strategy teams, citizens, and anyone interested in the future of mobility in their area to role play through future transport scenarios in an interactive board game format.

According to Mobility Lab, after 18 months in beta, the final version includes all new features. These include supplementing the existing four roles that can be played (national government, local government, business, and NGO) with a further seven roles to choose from.

A “white labelled” version of the game is also available, where individual future mobility scenarios can be plugged and played.

Based on its beta tests, Mobility Lab has also provided guidance on how to take the lessons learned from a game and apply them to strategy work.

During its beta period, Mobility Lab claims it has run scenario games for more than 150 participants and several companies, as part of their strategy development including strategy away days. Every bit of feedback received has been built into the live version.

It is also is part of the consultancy’s participatory mobility futures service, a full transport strategy development service where it works with councils to develop transport strategies based upon the needs of citizens.

The Future of Mobility Scenario game is based on the Scenario Exploration System (SES) concept initially developed by the European Commission’s Joint Research Unit.
